In fact, in some situations if you have little or no job experience having an advanced degree can actually harm your career prospects.

One of the easiest ways of figuring this out is to take a look at other people who are working in a career or field that you aspire to, and checking out to see whether they have the qualifications that you're considering pursuing. If you have any doubt whatsoever about your professional goals, consider putting off graduate school and, instead, spend some time working on some self-assessment and career planning...
